Scorpion Version 6.0 Released December 2007

New features include:

  • 3D tools for advanced point cloud, modeling, processing, and robot guidance are programmed with easy to use point and programming.

  • Simple two step 3D camera calibration

  • 3D Robot Vision can be added to existing systems without any hardware changes by using robot mounted cameras,

  • Scorpion can now be used with off the shelf GigE and fire wire cameras

  • Robot Guidance for all robot types and manufacturers ABB, KUKA, Motoman, Nachi, Kawasaki, Fanuc etc.

The animation on the right shows the steps of creating an 3D model of a pc-mouse with a Lasiris 19x19 lasergrid and 3 camera stereo vision system. The lasergrid covers a 3D FOV of 140 x 140 x 80 mm with a resolution of 0.5 mm.

Scorpion is an independent and open software tool for industrial vision. It is an ideal choice for the production engineer wanting to automate or secure quality.

The system gives the end-user the ease of use of a vision-sensor and still the flexibility and power of a custom vision-pc system. The system is founded on top of a standard Windows 2000 / XP PC platform - thus providing a non-dead-end alternative to: Intelligent Sensors, Smart Cameras, Vision Sensors and custom Vision Systems - One Solution for all Vision Systems.

Scorpion Vision Software has the following minimum system requirements:

  • Windows 2000 or Windows XP
  • Intel Pentium II 255 Mhz or higher
  • 128 Mb RAM
  • 10Mb free hard disc space

Compared to a traditional industrial vision approach, Scorpion offers " Twice the performance - at half the price". It is designed for skilled Production Engineers, and others without programming skills who want to build their own industrial vision application using off the shelf, commodity components.

3D support is available as an option to all Scorpion versions from Lite to Enterprise. The 3D option contains 25 new tools. The option will continuously be expanded with more capabilities.

Scorpion is probably the first non-programming 3D camera system available.
